Current research is focused on the below immediate thesis objectives. Primary research interests are focused on the phylogenetics and taxonomy of the Trichogrammatidae. However my interests are broad and currently I am also involved with a comparative morphology project looking at antennal structures across Hymenoptera as part of the HymAtoL project. We hope by taking a broad comparative approach to describing the external morphology of the Hymenopteran antenna we can better homologize structures and hopefully extract whatever phylogenetic information is preserved.
Thesis objectives:
a) World-wide monographic treatment of the genus Paracentrobia.
b) Taxonomic treatment of economically important species of Zagella and Oligosita associated with pestiferous Auchenorhyncha and Heteroptera in the new-world.
c) Combined morphological and molecular phylogenetic analysis of Trichogrammatid relationships.
d) Specimen level databasing of all Paracentrobia, Zagella, and Oligosita housed at UCR and examined during the course of the study; including geographic information, and host associations.
e)Production of an online key for the species of Paracentrobia, Zagella, Oligosita, and as pertinent, other species of Trichogrammatidae associated with economically important Auchenorhyncha and Heteroptera.
General academic interests include evolutionary biology in all its various forms from pattern too process, biogeography and conservation biology.
