Staff Research Associate, Sequencer Extrodinaire
As a Staff
Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. John M. Heraty, Department of
Entomology, UC Riverside, I am responsible for conducting directed projects
involving the systematics of Chalcidoidea (Hymenoptera), and Scarabaeiodea
(Coleoptera), including specimen preparation and curation. Other duties are to assist with
laboratory maintenance, assist with supervision of employees and graduate
students, and assist with the preparation of materials for several
courses. Most recently, I have
been most active in chalcidoid and scarabaeoid molecular systematics research,
and am currently sequencing several genes for the recently-funded NSF
Hymenoptera Tree of Life project.
Occasionally, I assist with manuscript preparation, especially in terms
of proofreading, producing scanning electron micrographs and other photographs,
and other forms of figure preparation.
I assisted in the design and performance of several kinds of field and
laboratory experiments involving the systematics and ecology of chalcidoid
wasps and scarabaeiod beetles.
In February
2001, my photography and research on Jewel Scarabs (genus Chrysina) was featured in National
Geographic Magazine. See the following links for information
