Andrew Smith
Since 2001, I have been collaborating with David Hawks and John Heraty on a large- scale molecular phylogenetics project focusing on scarab beetles. During this time, I have visited and worked in the Heraty molecular lab at UCR on numerous occasions. To date, we have compiled enormous datasets for taxa ranging across the superfamily Scarabaeoidea. A preliminary overview of this work was published recently (Smith et al. 2006) and several detailed more technical papers will follow soon. Through this collaboration, we are also in a partnership with the Beetle Tree of Life (BToL) project to reconstruct the higher-level phylogeny of the Coleoptera.
